What You Need
to Graduate

To be awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree from All Saints University School of Medicine, students must fulfil all four of the following graduation requirements. Each requirement must be completed in full — partial completion does not qualify a student for degree conferral.

01
🏫
Basic Medical Sciences

Successful completion of all 5 semesters of Basic Medical Science, delivered on campus in Kingstown, St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Students must pass all required courses, assessments, and semester examinations to progress to the clinical phase.

02
🏥
Clinical Clerkships & Rotations

Successful completion of 72 weeks of approved clinical clerkships and rotations at affiliated or approved teaching hospitals. Rotations span 18 medical specialties including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Psychiatry, and more.

03
📋
Exit Examinations

Successful completion of exit examinations in both Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences including examinations (CBSE and CCSE) administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME):

  • CBSE — Comprehensive Basic Science Examination, completed at the end of the Basic Sciences phase
  • CCSE — Comprehensive Clinical Science Examination, completed after all 72 weeks of clinical rotations
04
Good Standing & Full Clearance

A student must be in good academic and financial standing and must receive clearance from all of the following departments before the degree is conferred:

  • Accounts Department — all outstanding fees settled
  • The Registry — all academic records confirmed
  • Laboratories — all lab requirements completed
  • The Library — all borrowed materials returned
  • Good conduct and character throughout enrolment

All four requirements must be met. A student who has completed Basic Sciences and clinical rotations but has not passed the required exit examinations, or who has outstanding clearance from any department, will not be eligible for graduation until all conditions are satisfied.

About the NBME Examinations

The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) administers standardised examinations that are used by medical schools worldwide to assess student competency. ASU requires both the CBSE and CCSE as components of the exit examinations to ensure graduates meet internationally recognised clinical standards before entering residency.

These examinations also serve as preparation for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, which are required for licensure and residency applications in the United States and Canada.
